Measure and mark the route along which you intend to install your cable. Be sure that you are not burying your cable near existing water, gas or electric lines. Try to lay your cable in an area where it is unlikely to be dug up. If your route requires curves, make them as gentle as possible. Mark the route using marking paint. Measure the total length of your route and multiply by 1.05 to determine the length of cable to purchase.
