Clogged Bhopal drains not ready for monsoon onslaught

BHOPAL: When the monsoon is staring at the state capital, drains are still chocked and a large number of roads and footpaths are in bad shapes with cable laying work still on.
Pre-monsoon de-silting work carried out by BMC has left much to be desired. The main drains of the city including one at Banganga near Ravindra Bhawan are chocked with solid waste. "BMC carries out the nullah cleaning works just when there is some VVIP visit around this zone. Heaps of garbage being dumped go unnoticed," said a resident of Professors colony located across the road of nullah near Lower lake.
Laying of underground cable lines by a telecommunications company has also added to BMC's problems this season. "Their work has been delayed by over a month. If they continue at this pace, work would continue throughout the monsoon season," said a BMC official.
